Concussion Management

Structured, evidence-based concussion care — from initial assessment through return to sport.

About Concussion Management Services

Evolve Integrated Health provides structured, evidence-based concussion management for both acute concussion and persistent post-concussion symptoms.

A concussion affects several body systems at once, so our assessment looks at the whole picture — visual, vestibular, autonomic, cervical and cognitive — identifies which systems are affected, and guides your recovery step by step, from the first days after injury through return to school, work, or sport.

Whether you are days into a concussion or months into persistent symptoms that have not resolved, our multidisciplinary team is equipped to assess and treat you.

Conditions We Treat

A concussion is a brain injury caused by the acceleration or deceleration of the brain following a significant impact — to the head or elsewhere on the body. Concussions affect multiple body systems simultaneously, including the visual, vestibular, autonomic nervous, and cervical spine systems. No two concussions present identically.

Recovery is not simply a matter of rest. Prolonged inactivity can actually slow recovery. Modern evidence-based concussion management uses structured, progressive activity and targeted rehabilitation to address each affected system individually.

Concussion care at Evolve covers the full spectrum:

Initial Assessment and Baseline Testing

A comprehensive initial assessment evaluates symptoms, cognitive function, visual and vestibular processing, autonomic function, and cervical spine involvement. Pre-season baseline testing is also available for athletes and sports clubs, establishing individual benchmarks before any injury occurs.

Personalized Rehabilitation Program

  • Balance rehabilitation — vestibular and proprioceptive training to restore equilibrium and reduce dizziness
  • Vision rehabilitation — visual processing and tracking recovery to address blurred vision, light sensitivity, and screen intolerance
  • Cognitive rehabilitation — structured return to cognitive load (reading, schoolwork, screen use) matched to recovery capacity
  • Cervical spine treatment — manual therapy and exercise for neck pain and associated headaches
  • Exercise rehabilitation — graduated return to physical activity protocols calibrated to your symptom threshold
  • Nutritional support — dietary guidance to support brain healing and reduce neuroinflammation

Return to School, Work, and Sport

Personalized, evidence-based return protocols for all activity levels — designed to progress you as quickly as safely possible without triggering setbacks. Protocols are customized for children, adolescents, adults, and masters athletes.

How We Treat

Our concussion team brings together physiotherapy and chiropractic expertise to address every system involved in your recovery:

Systems-Based Assessment

Assessment looks at the interaction between the brain, visual system, vestibular system, autonomic nervous system, and cervical spine — a comprehensive approach to identifying what is driving your symptoms and what to do about it. Persistent symptoms that have not resolved under general care are a particular focus. Learn more on the Physiotherapy page.

Chiropractic Concussion Care

Chiropractic-focused concussion assessment and management, with particular attention to cervical spine involvement and neuromuscular rehabilitation. Learn more on the Chiropractic page.

Pre-Season Testing for Sports Clubs

Evolve offers concussion baseline testing programs for sports organizations and clubs, providing teams with pre-season benchmarks that enable accurate post-injury comparison. Contact us at 902-707-5429 for sports club program details and pricing.

Concussion Management FAQs

How soon after a concussion should I come in?

We recommend being assessed as soon as possible after a suspected concussion — ideally within the first week. Early evidence-based management leads to faster recovery. For the first 24–48 hours, a period of relative rest is recommended, but prolonged complete rest can actually slow your recovery.

What if my symptoms have been going on for months?

Persistent post-concussion symptoms are one of our specializations. Many patients with symptoms lasting weeks or months have not received systems-based assessment — meaning the underlying drivers of their symptoms have not been fully identified. Systems-based assessment is specifically oriented toward these complex cases.

What age groups do you treat?

We treat concussions across all age groups — children, adolescents, adults, and masters athletes. Return-to-school and return-to-sport protocols are customized for each patient.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book a concussion assessment directly without a physician referral. If you are not sure which practitioner to see, start with a free 15-minute consultation.

Don't Wait on a Concussion
