About Massage Therapy Services

How We Treat

Our registered massage therapists develop personalized treatment plans tailored to your health history, current symptoms, and wellness goals. We use a variety of techniques to address pain, restore function, and support your overall recovery.

Deep Tissue and Therapeutic Massage

Moderate to deep pressure targeting chronic tension, muscle knots, and adhesions in the soft tissue. Especially effective for chronic low back pain, neck stiffness, and areas of persistent tightness that limit mobility.

Myofascial Release

Sustained pressure applied to release restrictions in the fascia — the connective tissue layer surrounding your muscles. Releasing fascial restrictions improves range of motion, reduces referred pain, and addresses dysfunction caused by postural imbalances or repetitive use.

Sports Massage

Pre- and post-activity treatment designed to optimize athletic performance and accelerate recovery. Sports massage helps prevent injuries, reduce muscle soreness after intense training, and support your training goals — whether you are a competitive athlete or an active individual committed to fitness.

Trigger Point Therapy

Focused pressure on specific points of tension that often refer pain to other areas of the body. Particularly effective for tension headaches, neck pain, and chronic muscle tightness that has not responded to other treatments.

Specialized Techniques

Our therapists also offer cupping therapy, Gua Sha, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), joint mobilizations, and intra-oral massage for TMJ dysfunction. Not every therapist offers every technique — review individual therapist profiles for details on specializations.

Pregnancy Massage

Adapted positioning and techniques designed specifically to relieve pregnancy-related discomfort, including low back pain, hip tension, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, and swelling. Multiple therapists on our team are trained in prenatal massage and understand the unique needs of pregnant clients.

Massage Therapy FAQs

Do I need a referral to see a massage therapist?

No. You can book directly with any of our registered massage therapists without a referral. Some insurance plans require a referral for coverage — check your benefits before your first appointment.

What should I expect at my first massage therapy appointment?

Your initial appointment is 60 minutes. Your therapist will review your health history, discuss your goals and concerns, perform a brief assessment, and provide hands-on treatment. Your therapist will check in throughout the session about pressure, comfort, and any adjustments needed.

How do I choose the right massage therapist?

Our registered massage therapists each bring different techniques and specializations, and we can help match you with the best fit. If you have a specific concern — such as TMJ dysfunction, pregnancy-related discomfort, or sports recovery — check individual therapist profiles. Not sure? Book with any therapist and they will help point you in the right direction.

Is massage therapy covered by insurance?

Yes, most extended health insurance plans in Nova Scotia cover registered massage therapy. We offer direct billing for Blue Cross, Greenshield, Sun Life Financial, Manulife, and Canada Life. Call us at 902-707-5429 if you have questions.

Can I combine massage therapy with other treatments?

Absolutely. Many patients benefit from combining massage therapy with chiropractic, physiotherapy, or athletic therapy for comprehensive, integrated care. Your massage therapist can coordinate with other practitioners at Evolve to support your recovery goals.
